Miniature Low Voltage Dual Stepper Motor Motion-Controller and Driver with SPI, UART & Step/Direction (2x 0,8A/2.1..20V)

The TMC5272 is a miniaturized smart high-performance single axis stepper motor controller and driver IC with serial communication interfaces (SPI, UART) and extensive diagnostic capabilities. It combines a flexible 8-point ramp generator with jerk reduction for automatic positioning with industries’ most advanced stepper motor drivers based on a 256-µsteps built-in indexer and two fully integrated 20V, 1.1 A MAX Hbridges plus non-dissipative Integrated Current Sensing (ICS). The non-dissipative ICS eliminates bulky external sense resistors and capacitors resulting in space and power savings.

The StealthChop2™ chopper ensures absolutely noiseless operation combined with maximum efficiency and the best motor torque.
Highest integration, high energy efficiency, and a small form factor enable miniaturized and scalable systems for cost-effective solutions.

The integrated power FETs have very low impedance resulting in high driving efficiency and minimal heat generation. The typical total RDS(ON) (high side + low side) is 0.31 Ω.

The Integrated Overcurrent Protection (OCP) adapts to the selected motor current range.
The maximum RMS current per H-bridge is IRMS = 0.8 A RMS at room temperature assuming a 4-layers PCB.
The maximum output current per H-Bridge is IMAX = 1.5 A MAX limited by the Overcurrent Protection (OCP).
Since this current is limited by thermal considerations the actual maximum RMS current depends on the application, layout, and environmental conditions.
TMC5272 features abundant diagnostics and protections such as short protection / OCP, thermal shutdown, undervoltage lockout.
During thermal shutdown and under voltage lockout events the driver is disabled until normal operations are restored.
Furthermore, the driver’s core temperature can be read out using an integrated ADC.
TheTMC5272 is available in a tiny 2.97mm x 3.13mm WLCSP package with 36 pins.
